Arieso provides optimisation solutions for shared wireless networks

November 12th 2007

Newbury, UK and Atlanta, US;November 2007: First installation with T1 wireless operators a success

Arieso, the leading wireless network planning and optimisation provider, has successfully deployed its ariesoACP solution with two Tier 1 wireless operators to achieve shared network optimisation. ariesoACP uses a powerful optimisation algorithm with flexible architecture that can simultaneously analyse and create links between a multitude of networks and technologies. The solution makes it possible for operators to maximise the efficiency and performance of shared networks, and can also be used to optimise non-radio applications, including backhaul costs.

The two operators deployed Arieso’s tools and processes during the formation of one of the largest network sharing projects in the mobile communications market. Arieso’s ACP tool was used for enabling selection out of thousands of GSM and UMTS sites, with both networks serving over 15 million subscribers. Arieso worked closely with the operators to ensure that the activity was not detrimental to day-to-day operation for either network. The ariesoACP solution was also used to bring a number of planning and database tools together under a single platform to make it easier for the operators to use.

ariesoACP enables efficient, fast and accurate network optimisation. Using multiple, simultaneous modifications of cell parameters, Arieso’s solution quickly works through thousands of potential network designs to find a configuration that not only improves shared network performance but also decreases the level of operational expenditure, thus freeing up engineers time and the operators’ resources.

Shirin Dehghan, CEO of Arieso, commented: “Network sharing is becoming an increasingly popular option to cut costs. This means fewer base stations are needed, which is better for the environment, and is more cost efficient for the network operators which can lead to cost reductions for the end-users. However, it dramatically increases the complexity involved in optimising each network with independent business objectives. This is what we solve with our products.”

Arieso will be exhibiting the IIR Network Sharing Strategy Forum in Prague in January 2008.

Arieso's new software enables wireless operators to increase ROI on network investment and improve financial control

October 3rd 2007

Newbury, UK and Atlanta, US; 3 October 2007: ariesoCMP provides an objective, consistent and transparent approach to network CapEx management

Network optimization and capital planning specialist, Arieso, has launched its new ariesoCMP (Capital Management and Planning) software. The software will give global wireless network operators the ability to objectively assess the return on investment (ROI) potential of proposed network capital expenditure. This will enable them to get greater benefits from their investment budget to meet strategic, financial and customer satisfaction objectives.

ariesoCMP enables the proposals of engineering departments to be translated into financial benefits. Based on technical information about the network and detailed subscriber profiles and distributions, ariesoCMP creates a plan that allows engineers to demonstrate how adding network equipment in a specific location will affect subscribers and the amount of extra revenue that can be expected. This transparent and consistent approach allows budget requests to be compared objectively.

Paul Turner, Vice President of Global Operations at Arieso, commented: “The operators we work with have multi-billion dollar budgets for CapEx each year and thousands of projects all competing for a slice of the pie. On the strength of our network optimization tools we were asked by Tier 1 operators to help bring greater consistency and auditability to the way they grow their physical network and the software we are launching today has done just that.”

In addition to improving transparency, ariesoCMP delivers consistency of approach, making it easier for management to ensure spend is in line with business targets. This will reduce the man-hours spent on deciding which projects to approve by enabling the budget holder to compare requests on a like-for-like basis. The software also provides operators with an audit trail in order to track and assess the success of investments in the network infrastructure.

Arieso has been working closely with Tier 1 wireless network operators over the last 12 months to address the needs of this fast changing, dynamic market. The wireless market is maturing at a rapid rate, driven by new technologies and increasing numbers of younger subscribers who are opting not to use a fixed-line service, relying wholly on cell phones. In a market where voice ARPU (average revenue per user) is declining, operators are compensating by deploying new technology to support more data applications. ariesoCMP will help them achieve the best possible ROI on this investment. It also makes their CapEx more transparent and justifiable to investors and parent companies.

ariesoCMP is expected to bring significant budget savings to operators by demonstrating which projects based on established technologies, such as GSM, CDMA2000 and UMTS will deliver best return on investment. It also allows operators to make plans for how and when it would be best to incorporate new technologies such as WiMAX and Femto cells into their networks.
